Jordan Gillespie, McMurry University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 12)

JORDAN GILLESPIE OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Keller, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 26 through Sunday, February 1. SCAC Women's Basketball Release (Week 12) 

Gillespie was a defensive standout last week, leading the War Hawks to a pair of SCAC wins at home over Hendrix and Ozarks. Gillespie averaged an impressive 3.5 blocks per game, including three in McMurry’s win over the Warriors and then added four more in a win over the Eagles. Additionally, Gillespie chipped in seven defensive rebounds and one steal per game in the two victories.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Avory Miller of Austin College continued her stellar season on the defensive end, averaging 3.0 steals per game to help the 'Roos go 2-0 on the weekend and push their winning streak to six in a row. Miller also averaged 4.0 rebounds per game, with six of her eight total rebounds coming on the defensive glass, and chipped in 8.0 points and 4.5 assists per game. Senior guard Andie Will of Colorado College led the Tigers to a 2-0 weekend against Concordia (TX) and Texas Lutheran over the weekend. The Tigers held their opponents to an average of 33.6 percent from the floor. Will led the team with five steals (2.5 per game) and collected 4.5 rebounds and 8.5 points per game. She had three steals, three rebounds and also scored 15 points against CTX on Friday, then had another two steals and six rebounds on Saturday against the Bulldogs. Sophomore forward Lexi Arzate of Dallas led the Crusaders to a split last weekend, highlighted by a road win at Centenary. Arzate averaged 12.5 rebounds per game, including 7.5 on the defensive glass and also added 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per contest. Junior forward Riley Brady of Hendrix averaged 11.0 defensive rebounds and 2.5 steals in the Warriors' weekend split versus McMurry and Schreiner. She posted a 28-point, 20-rebound double-double against the War Hawks on Friday night and followed that up with a 26-point, 13-rebound double-double with three steals in the Warriors win over the Mountaineers. Senior guard Kylie Weeks of LeTourneau was at it again defensively, averaging 4.0 steals per game to go along with 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the YellowJackets. In a 78-69 win over Dallas, Weeks had 19 points with four steals, three rebounds, and four assists. She then had 11 points, four steals, three rebounds, and three assists in a loss to Austin. Senior guard Amyia Bowie of St. Thomas was outstanding defensively last week, leading the Celts to a 1-1 record. Bowie averaged five steals and five defensive rebouds per game, highlighted by six steals in the Celts’ road win over Concordia on Sunday. She also averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 assists per game in a stat stuffing week for the senior.
