John Joiner, McMurry University, Men's Track Athlete of the Week (Week 4)

JOHN JOINER OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Waxahachie, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, March 17 through Sunday, March 23. SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 4

Joiner finished first in the 100 meters at the TLU D3 Challenge with a time of 10.49 - a time that would have qualified for the national meet last year. His time was a personal record and is currently ranked second in the nation. Joiner also competed in the 200 meters and won that event with a finish of 21.32. Although the race was not wind legal, his time also established a new personal best. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Braylen Brown of Texas Lutheran won the 400 meters at the TLU hosted D3 Challenge with a time of 48.66, and his time currently ranks him seventh nationally. He was also the lead off leg for the winning 4x400 team. Sophomore Christian Cormier of Centenary finished second in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.93 and also placed fourth in the 200 meters (22.00) at the Belhaven University Invitational on Saturday as he continued his impressive start to his season. Sophomore Sean Dansby of Schreiner competed in the 800 meter run at the TLU D3 Challenge, taking control of the race from the start and holding off the field to earn the victory with a time of 1:54.53. He also contributed on the second leg of the Mountaineers' 4x400 relay squad which finished second with a time of 3:25.31. Senior Thomas Hughes of Concordia (Texas) placed first in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the TLU D3 Challenge, posting a time of 10:47.94 which was almost a full 30 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Junior Thomas Melina-Raab of Trinity won the 1,500 at the Charles Austin Classic with a new personal best of 3:55.90, and then came back to take second in the 800 at the TLU D3 Challenge with another personal best of 1:54.59. Junior Daniel Sanderson of Ozarks finished seventh overall, and was the top non-D1 competitor, with a time of 4:35.71 at the Richard Martin Invitational at Central Arkansas.
