EMILY HOLLAND OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a senior on the women’s basketball team from Mansfield, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Female Athlete of the Week for the week beginning February 24.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

“I think it kind of solidifies that not only am I a good athlete, but I’m a good person too,” Emily said of being named this week’s recipient, “It is nice to be recognized in both ways.”

Emily currently stands as the school’s record holder in multiple categories including 221 three-point field goals made, 597 three-point field goals attempted, and free throw percentage at 81.6%. In addition to these records, she is also in the top five all-time in McMurry women’s basketball for career scoring with 1,469 points.

During her junior year she was named ASC conference Player of the Year for 2024, and she scored 504 points ranking fifth all-time at McMurry for single-season scoring.

She was also named to the SCAC All-Conference women’s soccer team this past fall.

“I am proud of Emily and what she’s been able to do both on and off the floor,” said women’s basketball coach Drew Long. “She’s a prime example of what a student-athlete should be. I can’t think of a better choice for the Character and Community Award.”
