ZACH MITCHELL OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore linebacker from Fort Worth, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, September 13th. SCAC Football Release (Week 2)
Mitchell led the War Hawks with a career-best 12 tackles against #6 Hardin-Simmons while adding .5 sack and a QB hurry. The War Hawks clawed back in the second half in a 24-19 loss as the defense held the Cowboys scoreless in the second half.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore linebacker Collin Watkins of Centenary led the Gents' defense against Millsaps with 10 total tackles along with 1.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup. First-year defensive back Christian Roberts of Hendrix helped the Warriors to a gritty 30-28 road win at Huntingdon totaling five tackles with three tackles for loss and one pass breakup. Junior defensive back Justin Navarro of Texas Lutheran contributed eight tackles with five solo against Howard Payne for the Bulldogs. His eight tackles tied a career-high for the junior.
