SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The McMurry women’s soccer team lost, 3-0, to Cal Lutheran in the opening round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament on Saturday afternoon on Paul McGinlay Field on the campus of Trinity University. NCAA Bracket
The War Hawks finished the year with an overall record of 11-4-5. Highlighted by the program’s first-ever SCAC Tournament Title.
Cal Lutheran opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Tessa French found the back of the net off a header from a cross delivered by Anna Evenson. It was French’s fourth goal of the season.
The Regals doubled their lead going into half when Elena Baltzar scored her second of the season in the 30th minute off assists from Sawyer Frye and Ryan Kaneko.
Cal Lutheran would add a third in the 62nd minute as Stephanie Hackett scored her fourth goal of the year. Baltazar was credited with the assist for her third point of the afternoon.
Haylie Blakley and Natalee Shaw paced McMurry with two shots a piece. The War Hawks were outshot 15-7, including 8-2 in shots on target. The Regals finished the match with a 12-3 edge in corner kicks.
McMurry goalie Avery Anders finished the game with five saves.
The contest marked the final fixture for McMurry women’s soccer competing and representing the SCAC as a conference member. Next season the War Hawks will play in the American Southwest Conference.
