JACKSON HARRIS OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a junior defensive lineman from Kilgore, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, September 27th. SCAC Football Release (Week 4)
Harris played hero Saturday with the game-winning touchdown for the War Hawks with a scoop-and-score for a 78-yard touchdown. Harris caused, recovered and returned the fumble after Howard Payne was in the redzone in a tied game. His score came with nine seconds remaining to seal the win and he also totaled four tackles with two tackles for loss and a sack.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defensive back Jayvian Coulter of Hendrix totaled a game-high eight tackles in the Warriors' 47-28 win over Rhodes on Saturday night. Seven of those tackles were solo tackles, and one of them came for a loss of four yards while the senior also recorded a pass break-up in the secondary. Senior defensive lineman Keidrick Wooten of Lyon had 4.5 sacks for a loss of 22 yards while also being the lead tackler for the Scots with eight in the game. Wooten's 4.5 sacks are tied for third-most sacks in a game in league history. Sophomore defensive back Owen Garcia of Texas Lutheran posted eight tackles in the Bulldogs' loss to ETBU. He also added a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
