SEGUIN, Texas - McMurry University led from start to finish and capped its inaugural appearance in the 2025 SCAC Men's Track and Field Championships with a conference title Sunday afternoon on the campus of Texas Lutheran University. Official Website | Results | Event Photos | Awards Photos
The War Hawks, competing in their first SCAC track meet, held a comfortable lead throughout the meet and finished with 218 points. Trinity University, the four-time defending champion of the event, finished second with 173 points. Colorado College was third with 124 points.
McMurry first-year Kamryn Cleveland earned SCAC Male Athlete of the Meet honors, earning first place in the 200 meters, second place in the 100 meters, third place in the 110 meter hurdles and long jump and fifth place in the triple jump for 34 total points.
An amazing 10 conference records were established over the course of the weekend on the men's side, including eight on Sunday.
McMurry led the way both in total medals (18) and gold medals (seven). Trinity followed with 13 total medals and TLU and Colorado both had four golds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just as he did the previous day, Will Shuflit of Colorado College (watch post race interview) kicked off the competition off with a victory and another SCAC record - this time in the 5,000 meters. The sophomore shattered the previous mark by over 10 seconds, finishing in a time of 14:41.33 to earn top honors. The previous mark of 14:52.21 was set by Graham Wellman of DePauw at the 2005 championships. Senior Will Salony of Trinity finished second with an equally impressive time of 14:43.37, and Dallas first-year Alexander Bozhilhov rounded out the all-SCAC team in third in a time of 15:15.92.
- In the field, the men's discus was won by senior Reagan Owen of McMurry (watch post race interview), who earned top honors with a heave of 147' 9" (45.04 meters). He was joined on the awards stand by teammate first-year Hunter Lackey, who reached 144' 8" (44.10 meters) with his toss and sophomore Calvin Mason of LeTourneau, who had a best toss of 143' 10" (43.84 meters).
- In the last field event, Texas Lutheran senior Ezra Acero (watch post race interview) became just the fourth man in conference history to win three pole vault titles in a career, taking his third consecutive in style with a winning clearance of 15' 10 1/2" (4.84 meters) - the best in SCAC meet history. The former mark of 15' 1" had been shared by three different people, including Ezra from last year's conference championship. Junior Leroy Burke of McMurry finished second with a height of 15' 4 3/4" (4.69 meters) and LeTourneau junior Colton Fears was third with a clearance of 14' 10 3/4" (4.54 meters).
- Back to the track, the 4x100 relay kicked off the late morning action and the McMurry foursome of senior Shepherd Miller, senior Jacorian Colbert, junior Griffin Gayler and sophomore Dazhaun Walton (watch post race interview) blazed to a new SCAC championship mark of 40.80, besting the previous record of 40.81 set by the TLU 4x1 relay team just a year ago. Trinity was second in a time of 41.34 and St. Thomas finished third in 41.65.
- Colorado College junior Rabbit Barnes (watch post race interview) earned his third straight conference meet win in the 1,500 meters, taking top honors this year with a finish of 4:00.58. The win makes him just the fourth man in SCAC history to win three or more 1,500 meter titles in a career. Finishing 2-3 were Trinity teammates - junior Thomas Melina Raab (4:00.84) and senior Will Salony (4:03.71), who had been runner-up in the event the previous three seasons.
- McMurry senior Dontre Sinegal (watch post race interview) obliterated the conference record in the 110-meter hurdles and posted the fourth-fastest time in all of Division III with his 13.86 finish. The previous SCAC mark of 14.50 (Cody Hall, Trinity) had stood since 2017. Trinity junior Kris Duggan was second in 14.91 and McMurry first-year Kamryn Cleveland placed third in a time of 15.09.
- First-year Braylen Brown of Texas Lutheran (watch post race interview) kept the record-breaking performances rollling as he knocked off the league's top mark in the 400 meters, crossing the line in a SCAC record 47.24. Finishing second was the defending champion, junior Josh Williams of Colorado College, who broke the tape in 47.31. The previous record of 47.48 had been set by Williams at last year's meet. Placing third was senior Bryce Mcintyre of St. Thomas who finished in 47.51.
- McMurry senior Jacorian Colbert of McMurry (watch post race interview) pulverized the conference championship mark in the 100 meters, blazing to a 10.32 finish, 0.24 faster than the previous record of 10.56 set by TLU's Darren Jones at the 2019 championships. First-year Kamryn Cleveland of McMurry was second in 10.46 and Concordia (Texas) senior Jacob Land was third in 10.54.
- Picking up his second gold of the day, junior Rabbit Barnes of Colorado College (watch post race interview) made his 800 winning performance a memorable one, breaking the SCAC championship record with a 1:51.31 finish. The previous mark of 1:52.37 had been set by Centenary's DeVante' Jack at the 2022 championships. Senior Ryan Tresaugue of Trinity finished second in 1:51.92 and Schreiner's Sean Dansby earned the Mountaineers' first all-conference performance of the weekend with a third place finish in 1:53.47.
- In the 400 hurdles, junior Rickey Franks of Texas Lutheran (watch post race interview), after taking second as a freshman and third last season, earned his first career gold in the event and finished with a time of 53.98. Taking second was sophomore Bruce Brown of McMurry in 54.42 and first-year Kaleem Howard of Trinity was third in 56.87.
- First-year Kamryn Cleveland of McMurry (watch post race interview) put the finishing touches on his amazing inaugural SCAC meet, taking top honors in the 200 meter dash with a winning time of 21.36 - the fourth-fastest in SCAC history. Senior Bryce Mcintyre of St. Thomas, the event runner-up in 2023, was second again at this year's meet, finishing with a time of 21.44. Sophomore Price Schultea of Trinity placed third with a time of 21.62.
- In the final event of the men's program, the 4x400 relay, Texas Lutheran's quartet of first-year runners - Caden Keller, Gavino Ramirez, Eden Perez and Braylen Brown (watch post race interview) - paced a smoking fast field to the line, hitting the tape first in a SCAC record time of 3:14.68. The previous mark had been set by the Trinity men (3:14.75) at last year's championship. Trinity finished second in 3:15.22 and McMurry rounded out the all-SCAC teams with a third place finish in 3:16.30.
