RILEY BRADY OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a junior forward from Little Rock, Ark., has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, December 15 through Monday, December 22. SCAC Women's Basketball Release (Week 7)
Brady continues to be a monster on the glass, posting her third-straight 20-plus rebound performance and third in four game this season with 25 in a 62-53 win over non-conference for Howard-Payne last Friday. Of her 25 boards, 13 came on the defensive glass, as the Warriors have now won two-straight and improved to 2-2 since Brady returned to the lineup following the conclusion volleyball season. Her 25 rebounds are the second most in a single game this season, only behind Brady’s 26 rebound effort earlier in the year and are tied for the fifth most in a single game in SCAC history. Brady also recorded her fourth-straight double-double with 12 points in the win.
First-year forward Rayna Welsch of Colorado College averaged 6.5 defensive rebounds and 0.5 steals per game to help the Tigers split a pair of non-conference tilts last week, highlighted by a come from behind win over Wartburg. In the win over Wartburg, Welsch posted her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Kylie Weeks of LeTourneau had four steals and one defensive rebound to go along with 16 points in a close loss to Millsaps last week. Weeks continues to a be a force on the defensive side of the ball, leading the SCAC with 3.3 steals per game. Senior guard Lauren Sansano of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with three steals and grabbed six defensive rebounds in an SCAC opening win over Concordia last Friday. It marked the second time in the last three games Sansano has recorded three steals, her season high.
