PEDRO YANEZ OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from McAllen, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 8th through Sunday, September 14th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 3)
Yanez lifted McMurry to a 4-3 win over East Texas Baptist last Thursday in the lone game of the week for War Hawks. He registered his first career hat trick, including the game winner in the 85th minute to help McMurry grab its second win of the season. The hat trick in the first of Yanez’s career and the first by a War Hawk since joining the SCAC prior to the 2024 season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Carter Webb of Centenary scored a pair of goals this past weekend for the Gents in two road non-conference matches, on Thursday at Hardin-Simmons and Saturday at Howard Payne. Webb's first goal of the season came in the 84th minute on Thursday against the Cowboys and he scored in the 24th minute to give the Gents a 1-0 lead at Howard Payne on Saturday. Senior defender Rex Karjian of Colorado College assisted on both goals in the Tigers’ 2-0 win over Carrol last Saturday, tying a single game career-high in the lone game of the week for CC. Karjian is now tied for the SCAC lead with four assists on the season. Junior midfielder Jesse Garfias of Concordia netted the game-winner in the Tornados’ 1-0 win over Hardin-Simmons on the road last Tuesday. It marked the first goal of the season for Garfias. Junior forward Trisan Silence of Ozarks assisted on three of the four Eagles goals last week. Silence recorded a pair of assists in the Eagles’ 2-2 tie against Ecclesia and then added one more assists in Ozarks’ 2-2 tie against Lyon on Sunday. Junior winger Tony Castro of St. Thomas scored a pair of game-winning goals last week to lead the Celts to a perfect 2-0 record. Castro rang home the game winner against UMHB last Thursday in a 3-1 win and then scored the opener in a 2-0 win over North American University on Saturday.
