WACO, Texas -- Eighth-seeded McMurry University opened play at the Southern College Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championship with a 4-2 victory over the ninth-seed University of Dallas Thursday evening at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University. McMurry improved to 5-10 and will face off against the top seed Trinity on Friday at 12:30 pm CT as play is scheduled to move back to the Waco Regional Tennis & Fitness Center. The University of Dallas closes the 2025 season with a 4-9 mark.
With play moved to the indoor courts at Baylor, the teams opened with singles play and Nicolas Villalovos got the War Hawks on the board first with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. However, the Crusaders earned the next two points as Shu-Lun Chang, who improved to 10-3 on the season with the win, evened the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win on the No. 1 line, and Gabriel Alfaro put UD up 2-1 with his 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) victory at No. 3.
McMurry reeled off the next three decisions, however, highlighted by a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory by Khoen Gregory at No. 5 singles to clinch the victory.
