Cole Riha, McMurry University, Football - Character & Community

COLE RIHA OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defensive back on the football team from Boerne, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning December 15.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Cole, who finished the 2025 season with 26 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss, with eight pass breakups and an interception, served as one of the War Hawk team captains.

”I'm very thankful and grateful for this award,” said Riha, adding, “I live my life for God and I try to focus on that every day and being authentic to myself and being a servant towards others. I'm thankful for this award and I'm very grateful and appreciative for it.”

Cole is a two-year starter and captain on the football team and a member of the football team.

“Cole was selected by his teammates as a captain this year, which is very unusual for a sophomore to be elected to that role,” Head Coach Jordan Neal said. “He also plays the drums in the chapel worship band at McMurry, and he is by far the most involved players we have in terms of volunteer and community service opportunities. He has helped with City Light homeless ministry of First Baptist Church. He has helped with the Texas State Veterans Cemetery here in Abilene doing "Wreaths Across America." He has also been one of our strongest leaders and best teammates that we have. Cole, and this is saying something, is without question the hardest working player I have ever coached. He has the very best practice habits of any player I've coached. He is a 100 percenter!”
