Katie Wilson, McMurry University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 6)

KATIE WILSON OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a senior defender from Liberty Hill, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, October 5th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 6)

Wilson was outstanding over the weekend leading the War Hawks to a pair of SCAC wins, highlighted by a 4-0 shutout over Austin College on Friday. Wilson and the War Hawk defensive was stingy in limiting opponents in the offensive third allowing just one goal, four shots on goal and four corner kicks in 180 minutes of action. The shutout over Austin College is the second in the last three games for McMurry.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

First-year goalkeeper Kieran McFarland of Austin College was outstanding in goal in her one appearance last weekend, helping the ‘Roos earn a 2-1 road victory at Schreiner. McFarland logged all 90 minutes, making a pair of saves in the victory. First-year goalkeeper Morgan Stancliff of Centenary notched her second shutout of the season and made a pair of saves in her 90 minutes on Sunday as the Ladies earned a hard-fought scoreless draw against Dallas at home. Stancliff is now tied for second in the SCAC with 36 saves on the season.  Junior goalkeeper Kennedy Lewis of Hendrix posted her second shutout of the season, making four saves in the Warriors 3-0 win over Concordia on the road last Friday. Lewis is now sixth in the SCAC with a 1.18 GAA on the year. Junior defender Mary-Ilyse Lehmann of St. Thomas was a defensive stalwart in helping the Celts secure a shutout victory over Dallas at home last Friday. Lehmann and the Celts defensive limited the Crusaders to just two shouts on goal and four corner kicks as St. Thomas has now posted shutouts in five of its last six matches. Sophomore defender Noelani Ajel of Texas Lutheran was a defensive anchor in helping lead the Bulldogs to a perfect 2-0 week in SCAC plays with wins over Ozarks and Hendrix. Ajel and the Bulldogs limited opposing offenses to just one goal on the week, only six shots on target and five corner kicks. TLU earned its fourth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the Warriors on Sunday.
