VICTORIA SOSSAMAN OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS (TEX.), a junior from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 23 through Sunday, March 29. SCAC Softball Release - Week 8

Sossaman was outstanding in the circle last week for the Celts, posting a 2-0 record with a pair of complete game performances to help UST extend its win streak to six in a conference sweep of Ozarks at home. Sossaman tossed 13.0 innings of work, allowing just seven hits and one earned run, posting a 0.54 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP. She continues to lead the SCAC in strikeouts, adding a league best 13 last week to push her season total to a conference best 78 on the year. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Cassidy Cantera of Austin College had a strong weekend for the ‘Roos, earning a complete game victory in the team's 7-2 win over Centenary on Saturday. Cantera scattered six hits with zero walks in the win, and finished the weekend with a 3.75 earned-run-average with a 1.29 WHIP and two strikeouts without a single walk issued. First-year Haydyn Schexnayder of Centenary picked up a pair of wins in the circle for the Ladies in their road series win at Austin College. Schexnayder pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs and four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. First-year Mia Post of Concordia (Tex.) delivered a strong outing in the circle in game three of the Tornados’ series sweep over Hendrix, earning the win after tossing five innings while allowing just two earned runs. She struck out six and limited Hendrix offensively, lifting Concordia to a 11-2 win in the series finale. First-year Brooke Bubert of LeTourneau made two appearances and was 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA in nine innings of work last week for the YellowJackets. She went five innings and allowed two earned runs with one strikeout and no walks to collect the win in a 6-5 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor last Tuesday. She then tossed four shutout innings in her start at No. 6 East Texas Baptist. Sophomore Nyema Muhammad of McMurry picked up a win in the circle in the War Hawks SCAC sweep of Dallas last weekend. Muhammad tossed five innings, scattering just two hits without allowing a run and striking out one to get the win. It marked the second-straight start for Muhammad without allowing a walk. Junior Bailee Cowell of Ozarks had a pair of wins in non-conference action last week to push her win total to ten. In those two wins, Cowell totaled 12 strikeouts in 15.0 innings of work, allowing just two earned runs. Senior Katelyn Howard of Texas Lutheran went 1-0 in the circle last week in two appearances in helping the Bulldogs extend their win streak to 15-straight in league play with a sweep of Schreiner at home. Howard scattered four hits in six innings of work, including a one-hitter to secure the win for the Bulldogs on Friday night. In total Howard posted a 0.00 ERA in 6.0 innings of work, striking out four and producing an impressive 0.67 WHIP.
