ELIJAH EMERSON OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a first-year from Katy, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets conducted from Thursday, October 9 through Saturday, October 11. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 7)
Emerson continued his stellar rookie campaign, turning in a record-breaking performance to lead the Celts to a 14th-place team finish at the DBU Old Glory Gallup on Saturday. He posted a school-record 8K time of 24.41.4 to finish 11th out of 401 competitors across all divisions. This marks his second Runner of the Week award of the season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Zack Wroten of Centenary had the Gents' top finish (19:12.40) to place 13th in the Grambling State XC Invite on Thursday at Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston, La. The rookie Wroten has recorded the Gents' top finish in all four meets this season. First-year Zach McNaul of Colorado College led the Tigers with a 25th-place finish at the UCCS Open Friday morning at North Monument Valley Park. McNaul completed the 8K course in a time 26:55.0. Junior Matthew Kangas of Concordia (TX) led the Tornados at the DBU Old Glory Gallop, shaving over two minutes off his previous PR with an 8K time of 27:23.49. Senior Owen Lien of Hendrix posted a 16th-place individual finish at the Tiger Invite hosted by Ouachita Baptist University to pace the Warriors last week. Lien crossed the line of the 8K course in 26:55.9, the fastest 8K time by and Hendrix athlete since 2012. Junior Matthew Dunsworth of Ozarks finished second overall to help the Eagles dominate the 8k U of O Invitational on Saturday in Clarksville. Dunsworth ran a 25:21.86, nearly breaking the 8k program record. He was one of six Eagle runners who finished among the top-10 at Saturday's race. Junior Sean Dansby of Schreiner posted an 8K PR to lead the way for the Mountaineers at the DBU Old Glory Gallop. Dansby crossed the line in a time of 27:38.4.
