KYLIE KIRK OF CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY (TEX.), a junior from Liberty Hill, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 9 through Sunday, March 15. SCAC Softball Release - Week 6
Kirk delivered a dominant performance in the circle for the Tornados, throwing a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 SCAC victory over McMurry last Thursday. She scattered just seven hits across seven innings of work, while striking out 10 batters and issuing no walks. The 10 strikeouts tied Kirk for the most by a Tornado in a single game (last: Bailey Tisdale, April 2021). Her performance marks the first double-digit strikeout effort without issuing a walk since former TLU ace Ashlyn Strother recorded 13 strikeouts with no walks on March 22, 2024.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Bree Brege of LeTourneau went 2-0 with a 2.17 ERA over 9.2 innings on the week for the YellowJackets. She picked up the win over Millsaps after going four innings and allowing just two runs in a 10-2 victory. In a 7-1 win over Centenary, Brege went 5.2 innings allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout. Senior Allison Hughes of St. Thomas delivered a complete game shutout victory to help the Celts secure a three-game series sweep over Austin College last weekend. Hughes allowed just four hits over five innings, while striking out five and talking just three in a 11-0 win over the ‘Roos on Saturday. Senior pitcher Katelyn Howard of Texas Lutheran went 2-0 with two complete games including a win over 6th ranked WashU and a complete game shutout of Ozarks. Howard struck out six, while allowing 16 hits and just three earned runs, posting a 1.62 ERA over 13.0 innings of work last week.
