LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released the All-Region awards Wednesday and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference had four total players earn the recognition, including three who received First Team honors. Complete AVCA Release
Colorado College and University of St. Thomas each had two athletes earn All-Region honors.
St. Thomas’ Alexis Bodunrin and Carly Lange, along with Colorado College’s Booke Brilliant each received first-team nods.
Colorado College’s Camille Sherrill earned honorable mention recognition.
Bodunrin, a junior outside hitter from Tomball, Texas, was named SCAC Player-of-the-Year after pacing the league in kills per set (4.08), points per set (4.5) and second in the SCAC with 432 total kills. She also earned All-Tournament team honors at last week’s SCAC Tournament Championship.
Lange, a junior libero from Bellville, Texas, was named the SCAC Backrow-Player-of-the-Year. She is currently leading the SCAC in digs (668) and digs per set (6.19) and is third in all of Division III in both categories.
Bodunrin and Lange both led St. Thomas to the number one overall seed in last weekend’s SCAC Tournament and an SCAC Gold Division Co-Regular Season Championship.
Brilliant, a junior middle blocker from San Rafael, California, earned First-Team All-SCAC honors this year and is making her debut on the All-Region squad. Brilliant heads into the NCAA Tournament second in the SCAC .351 hitting percentage and fifth in the league with 314 kills.
Rounding out the list of SCAC student-athletes on the AVCA All-Region 10 squad is junior outside hitter Camille Sherrill of Missoula, Montana. Sherrill, who was named First-Team All-SCAC was named SCAC Tournament MVP in leading the Tigers to the program’s seventh SCAC title last week and on Tuesday was named the AVCA Div. III Player of the Week.
