MARSHALL, Texas – The University of St. Thomas Softball team kicked off the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Regional in strong fashion, earning a 3-1 victory over Belhaven University on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Celts improve to 31-10 overall and advance in the winner's bracket of the Marshall Regional.
After a scoreless first three innings, the Celts broke through in the fourth. Isabelle Charles crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Lindsey Gonzalez, putting UST ahead 1-0. In the fifth, Jaelyn Simmons added to the lead with an RBI double to score Gabby Davila.
The offense continued in the sixth as Gonzalez delivered again, this time with a clutch RBI single to score Samantha Crumrin and stretch the lead to 3-0.
Belhaven threatened late, getting on the board with a solo home run in the seventh, but the Celts held firm to secure the win.
