LEAH TORRES OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a sophomore from Kingwood, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Monday, March 9 through Tuesday, March 10. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 3)
Torres fired rounds of 80 and 77 to finish at 157 (+15) to earn medalist honors at the Space City Classic, which was hosted by St. Thomas and contested at the Gus Wortham Park Golf Course in Houston. Torres bested Shay West of Hardin-Simmons by a single stroke in leading her Celts to a fourth-place team finish.
Torres was tops in the field in par 5 scoring (even) and her 21 pars was also best among the 33 individual participants.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Kinley Pessel of LeTourneau bounced back from an opening-round 82 and fired a two-over par 73 on Tuesday to finish tied for third (+13) at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational, which was hosted by LeTourneau. Her final round 73 was the low round of the tournament. Sophomore Addisyn Kinnan of McMurry paced the War Hawks with rounds of 78 and 87 for a two-day total of 165 (+23) at the Space City Classic. Kinnan finished in 11th place on the individual leaderboard and led her team to a third-place finish. Sophomore Remme Trujillo of Concordia (Texas) was the top finisher among the Tornados' linksters, finishing tied for 13th with rounds of 83 and 84 (167, +25). First-year Ava Martinez of Hendrix carded rounds of 92 and 85 to finish at 177 (+35) and pace the Warriors at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational. The first-year finished 24th on the individual leaderboard which consisted of 49 players.
