KATELYN HOWARD OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior right-hander from Waller, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 9 through Sunday, February 15. This marks the second consecutive week she has earned the award. SCAC Softball Release - Week 2
Howard allowed just two runs (one earned) over three appearances this weekend as she picked up all three wins in the Bulldogs weekend sweep of McMurry. In total Howard tossed 13.0 innings, scattering 12 hits, striking out eight and did not allow a single free pass. She posted a 0.54 ERA and impressive 0.92 WHIP. This marks the second consecutive week she has earned the award.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year pitcher Cassidy Cantera of Austin College was lights out in two relief appearances in the ‘Roos' SCAC series at LeTourneau, throwing a combined 8.2 innings in two games while allowing zero runs on five total hits, boasting a WHIP of 0.58 and also earning the team's first win of the year in an 11-4 win to cap the three-game set. Senior pitcher Alexis Roach of Centenary made two starts over the weekend for the Ladies as she helped lead them to a home sweep over Schreiner to begin conference play. She went the distance in game one of the series, a 12-1 win in five innings as she allowed just one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and then came on in relief in game three of the series. Junior pitcher Kylie Kirk of Concordia earned her second career no-hitter and struck out a season-best nine hitters in a 13-1 victory over Dallas last week. In total she appeared in three out the four games for CTX last week and struck out 16 batters in only 9.2 innings of action. For the week she finished with a 4.34 ERA. Junior pitcher Victoria Sossaman of St. Thomas delivered two complete-game performances in conference play, logging 13.0 innings across two starts while posting a 2.69 ERA. She struck out 12 batters and issued just one walk during the week, showcasing strong command and efficiency in the circle .
