ANTONIO RAMIREZ OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a junior from League City, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Monday, March 9 through Tuesday, March 10. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 3)
Ramirez posted a four-under total of 209 (68-70-71) to finish four-under-par and claim medialist honors at the Space City Classic, which was hosted by UST and played at the Gus Wortham Park Golf Course in Houston. The junior earned top honors by a single stroke over Southwestern's Ethan Bridges to lead the Celts to a fourth-place finish at the eight-team event.
Ramirez led the field in both par 3 (even) and par 5 scoring (-6) and his 13 total birdiess were third-best in the 49-player field.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior William Baker of Hendrix finished second among the 83-player field at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational, firing rounds of 73, 71 and a 67 en route to a three-round score of 211 (+1). His final round 67, which included six birdies, was tied for the low round of the day on Tuesday and the second-lowest of the tournament. Sophomore Sophomore Cooper Hollomon of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with a third place finish at the Space City Classic, carding a two-under par total of 211. Hollomon climbed six spots on the leaderboard shooting his best round of the 54-hole tournament - carding three-under on Tuesday. Junior Aubrey Snell of Centenary led the way for the Gents after he shot a three-round total of 217 (+7) at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational. His final round 68, one of just six sub-70 rounds on the day, catapulted him from a tie for 25th to seventh place alone on the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Owen Prewitt of LeTourneau, along with his teammate senior Kaiden Schneider, posted top 10 finishes at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational, which was hosted by LeTourneau. Prewitt carded rounds of 70, 75 and 73 to finish tied for eighth with a total score of 218 (+8). Sophomore Ryan Avila of Schreiner was one of three golfers to finish tied for 11th at 219 (+9) at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational. Avila paced the Mountaineers, who finished seventh in the team standings, with rounds of 76, 71 and 72. Senior Parker Smith of Concordia (Texas) finished tied for 19th at the Space City Classic, posting rounds of 73, 74 and 74 to finish at 221 (+8).
