JORGE GONZALEZ OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior goalkeeper from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 22nd through Sunday, September 28th. It is the second consecutive week he has earned the honor. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 5)
Gonzalez was a wall in net last weekend for the Celts, playing 174 of 180 minutes across a pair of back-to-back shutout victories to open SCAC play against Schreiner and McMurry on the road. Gonzalez finished with seven saves and has now posted shutouts in three of his last four starts.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defender Dylan Stapley of Colorado College led the Tigers to back-to-back shutout victories to open SCAC play. Stapley played all 90 minutes against Ozarks in a 3-0 win, where CC played with only 10 men for 60 minutes. He then played all 90 minutes in a 7-0 defeat of Hendrix, where the Tigers allowed only two shots on goal. The two shutouts bring CC's total to six this season, tied for third most in the country. Junior defender Steven Dolan of Concordia (TX) was critical in the Tornados allowing just two goals in a three-match week, including leading CTX to a 1-0-1 start in SCAC play. Dolan played 187 total minutes in three fixtures, generating multiple counterattack chances and limiting offensives in the final third, while allowing just two goals all week, highlighted by a 1-0 shutout win ov the road against Austin College on Sunday. Junior goalkeeper Edson Camara Martinez of LeTourneau allowed just two goals and tallied seven saves in a 0-1-1 week for the YellowJackets to open SCAC play. He had three saves and notched the tie in a 1-1 draw with Concordia and then tallied four saves in a 1-0 loss to Texas Lutheran on Sunday.
