Jesus Del Agulia, University of St. Thomas, Men's Golfer of the Week (Week 5)

JESUS DEL AGULIA OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a sophomore from Mazatlan, Mexico, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Sunday, Ocotber 12 through Tuesday, October 14. SCAC Golf Release (Week 5)

Del Agulia claimed medalist honors at the SCAC Fall Preview, leading the Celts to a tie for first-place overall team finish. Del Agulia posted a two-round total of 138, six under par to secure a two-stroke victory. He opened the tournament with a two-round of 70 to sit in a tie for fourth going into final round were he shot a four-under 68 to claim the title. His final round score of 68 was the second lowest of the day. Del Agulia finished tied for first in Par 5 scoring (4.38), tied for fourth in par 3 scoring (3.00) and his nine total birdies also finishe tied for fourth in the field. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Aubrey Snell of Centenary finished tied for third at the SCAC Fall Preview to lead the Gents. Snell fired rounds of 72 (E) and 69 (-3) to post a two-round total of 141 (-3). He finished the event with eight birdies, tied for sixth in the field. First-year Jackson Reynolds of Concordia (TX) posted a tie for seventh place at the SCAC Fall Preview, highlighted by a one-under opening round of 71. Reynolds finished the tournament with a two-round score of 145 (+1) that included 28 total pars, tied for the most in the field. Senior Iain Griggs of Dallas vaulted 31 spots with a blistering final round of 64, eight-under par, to finish second at the SCAC Fall Preview. Griggs’ 64 was the lowest round of the tournament on any day and his 11 total birdies on the week was second best among the field for the week. Senior William Baker of Hendrix secured a sixth-place individual finish at the SCAC Fall Preview to lead the way for the Warriors. Baker carded rounds of 70 (-2) and 74 (+2) to finish with a two-round even score par of 144. He was best in the field in par 4 scoring with an average of 3.80 (-4). First-year Rafa Torres of LeTourneau led the YellowJackets to a 10th-place team finish at the Golfweek October Classic in Sandestin, Florida. Torres finished tied for 15th individually, powered by a final round of 67 (-4), vaulting 24 spots to finish in the top 15 with a three-round total of 215 (+2). He finished the week tied for third in par 3 scoring with a 2.80 scoring average. Sophomore Tripten Roberts of McMurry posted a top 15 finish at the SCAC Fall Preview to lead the way for the War Hawks. Roberts finished tied for 13th after posting round of 75 (+3) and 72 (E) for a two-day total of 147 (+3). Sophomore Ryan Warneke of Schreiner impressed at the SCAC Fall Preview by turning in a top three individual finish, finishing tied for third. Warneke opened with strong round of 68 (-4) and closed with a 73 (+1) to finish with a two-round total of 141 (-3). He finished the tournament tied for second in par 4 scoring with an average of 3.90. Sophomore Brandon Munson of Texas Lutheran secured another top 10 individual finish this fall, earning a tie for ninth at the SCAC Fall Preview with a two day total of 146 (+2). Munson carded back-to-back rounds of 73 (+1) and finished tied for first in the field with 28 total pars.
