SCAC Duo Lands First Team NABC All-District Honors; St. Thomas' Medina Collects District Coach of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2025-26 NABC Coaches' Division III All-District teams and coaches Tuesday, recognizing the best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes and coaches in the division.

Concordia University’s (Tex.) Joey Ramirez and University of St. Thomas’ Angel Johnson both earned First Team District 10 Honors, while Johnson’s head coach, Anthony Medina was tabbed the NABC District 10 Coach of the Year.

Ramirez, a senior guard from Weimar, Texas was named the SCAC Player of the Year and earned three conference Player of the Week honors this season, including USBWA Div. III National Player of the Week in December. A First Team All-SCAC performer, Ramirez played in started in all 28 games for Concordia this year, leading the Tornados to the program’s first ever SCAC Tournament Title earlier this month. Ramirez led the SCAC in both points per game (22.4) and total points (626). Historically, his 22.4 points per game ranks sixth most in a single season in SCAC history, while his 626 total points are the second most points scored in a single season. He is just the fourth athlete in SCAC history to reach 600 points in a single season.

Johnson, a senior guard from Houston, Texas, was elevated to the First Team All-District after earning Second Team honors last season. This year he earned his second consecutive First Team All-SCAC honor and was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Year following the 2025-26 regular season. Offensively, Johnson is currently tied for 18th in all of Div. III with 147 assists, the sixth most assists in a single season in SCAC history. His assist to turnover ratio, 2.49, ranks in the top 35 in all of Div III.   On the defensive side of the ball, Johnson led the SCAC with 78 steals on the season (11th in Div. III), helping to lead a team defensive effort that led the SCAC and currently ranks seventh in the country, allowing opponents just 61.5 points per game.

Earlier this week, both Ramirez and Johnson were named to the D3hoops.com All-Region 10 First Team.

Medina was named District 10 Coach of the Year after guiding St. Thomas to a historic season, highlighted by the most wins in a single season in SCAC history (29), an undefeated SCAC regular season and Gold Division Title and SCAC Tournament Title. Medina, the SCAC Coach of the Year, and the Celts will carry a 26-game winning streak, the longest in conference history, into the NCAA Regional Final this Thursday against Christopher Newport. The Celts appearance in the NCAA Regional Final marks the first for any SCAC program since 2008. This marks the second time in the last four years Coach Medina has secured NABC District 10 Coach of the Year honors, previously winning the award following the 2022-23 season.
