NATHAN KONGOLO OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS (TEX.), a sophomore guard from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, December 1 through Sunday, December 7. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 5)
Kongolo put together a commanding defensive performance in a 66-53 win over No. 15 Trinity, helping the defense hold the Tigers to its lowest point total of the season. Playing all but one minute on the floor, he finished with four steals, a block, and zero turnovers while adding four rebounds and three assists. Kongolo also added 15 points in the win shooting 50 percent from the floor. Trinity was held defensively to its lowest rebounds this season and forced into its second highest number of turnovers as well.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Ethan Pearce of Austin College made his presence felt on the defensive end of the court in the 'Roos' first conference game of the year, coming away with three steals and three blocked shots against Dallas. Pearce also grabbed eight rebounds in the game. Sophomore Nicholas Addison of Centenary scored a team-high 15 points for the Gents in their league opener against LeTourneau on the road. Addison was 5-of-7 from the floor in 30 minutes with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals and finished 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Junior Anariss Brandon of Concordia (Tex.) created havoc on the defensive end in a pair of wins, posting seven steals in both games. Brandon also turned the defensive into offense, averaging 24.5 ppg, 3.0 rbg, and 3.0 apg in the two contests. Senior Jackson Mayes of LeTourneau led the YellowJackets averaging 3.0 steals and 7.5 rebounds per game to go along with 22.0 points and 3.5 assists per game in a 1-1 week. He had three steals in both of LeTourneau's games against Centenary and Hardin-Simmons, and he tallied 4.5 defensive rebounds per game on the week.
