JORDYN JOY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Kerrville, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 22. SCAC Softball Release - Week 7
Joy stepped up to lead the Bulldogs to two victories over the course of their 5-1 run during the TLU Invitational last weekend. Joy tossed five shutout innings in relief against Bethel, limiting the Royals to just three hits, before tossing and earning a complete game victory against No. 17 Tufts. For the week, Joy finished 2-0, with an impressive 0.58 ERA and 1.00 WHIP, scattering just nine hits over 12 innings of work and allowing just one run against stiff competition.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year pitcher Haydyn Schexnayder of Centenary was superb in the circle for the Ladies in their sweep over Dallas at home over the weekend. She finished with an 0.88 ERA in two appearances, including one start, allowing just one earned run and six hits in eight IP with no BB and three strikeouts. Senior pitcher Kylie Kirk of Concordia (Tex.) went 1-1 last week in the circle for the Tornados, highlighted by a complete game shutout victory over SCAC opponent Austin College. In the win, Kirk tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts. For the week, Kirk posted a 0.54 ERA, scattering nine hits in 13 innings of work, striking out 13 and posting a 1.54 ERA. First-year pitcher Brooke Bubert of LeTourneau made two starts and had a 3.11 ERA with a 1-0 record over nine innings of work on the week. She went five shutout innings allowing just one hit and striking out a season-high five in a win over Howard Payne. Sophomore Nyema Muhammad of McMurry secured the SCAC series win on the road at Hendri last Saturday, getting the win in the circle of the game three rubber match. Muhammad tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run over five innings, scattering five hits and striking out four in the 10-1 victory. Junior right-hander Bailee Cowell of Ozarks posted a win and a save to help the Eagles secure a series victory against LeTourneau. Cowell opened the series with a complete game performance with seven strikeouts. In game two, Cowell pitched in relief throwing the final three innings to receive a save. For the week, Cowell tossed 10.0 innings and allowed three earned runs, scattering 11 hits, striking out eight and posting a 2.10 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. Junior Brynn Glidewell of St. Thomas made three appearances last week, scattering four hits over 5.1 innings of work and securing one victory. She struck out one batter, allowed just one earned run and posted a 1.31 ERA and 0.94 WHIP, issuing just one walk.
