ALEXIS BODUNRIN OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a junior outside hitter from Tomball, Texas, has been named the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for matches played from Friday, August 29th through Monday, September 1st. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 1)
Bodunrin was instrumental in the Celts' successful 4-0 start to the season as she tallied a league-leading 64 kills over four matches. The junior posted a career-high 27 kills against Mary Hardin-Baylor - which is tied for the sixth-most in a four-set match in SCAC history - and was in double-figures for kills in three of the four matches played. In total, she averaged 4.57 kills per set, which also is a league-best mark, and posted a .301 attack percentage with 71.5 points for the weekend.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior outside hitter Rachel Sadler of Austin College led the ‘Roos to a 4-0 weekend, totaling 51 kills for an average of 3.92 kills-per-set with a .318 hitting percentage. Sadler tied for the second most kills in Austin College volleyball history with 29 in a five-set win over Millsaps to finish the weekend. First-year outside hitter/defensive specialist Destiny Labbe of Centenary led the Ladies in both digs (18) and aces (7) in her collegiate debut in a win over Wiley. Labbe added 10 kills and her seven aces are tied for the third most in a single match for Centenary in the division III era (2011-present). Junior middle blocker Brooke Brilliant of Colorado College led the Tigers with 45 kills and a .560 hitting percentage with just three errors over a 2-2 weekend. She posted a career-high pct. of .800 vs. Milwaukee School of Engineering with 12 kills and 0 errors on 15 attempts. Sophomore outside hitter Brooklynne Fitzgerald of Concordia (Tex.) had double-digits kills in all four matches to start the season with 45 total on the weekend. She also added 46 digs and seven service aces. First-year middle blocker Mary Mehan of Dallas posted 28 kills over her first four collegiate matches helping the Crusaders to a win to close out opening weekend. She averaged 2.15 kills per set in her collegiate debut. Junior outside hitter Ana Bastos of Hendrix helped the Warriors to a 2-0 weekend as she posted a team-high in kills in both matches with 28 total. Bastos’ 15 kills against Lyon matched a career-high in a four-set match. Senior right-side hitter Emma Smith of LeTourneau averaged 2.25 kills per set and hit .350 to lead LeTourneau to a 2-1 weekend at Emory’s Jenny McDowell Invitational. Smith posted a pair of career-highs in kills ending with 12 against St. Catherine. Sophomore right side hitter/outside hitter Marcette Williams of McMurry recorded 43 total kills to help the War Hawks to a 3-1 record. Williams added 10 digs and nine total blocks over four matches. Sophomore middle blocker Andie Lozano-Lomeli of Texas Lutheran added 23 kills across a 2-1 weekend for the Bulldogs. She also totaled eight blocks including four in a 3-0 win against Whitman.
