RAFA TORRES OF LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY, a first-year from Madrid, Spain, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Monday, September 8 through Tuesday, September 9. SCAC Golf Release (Week 1)
Torres, making his collegiate debut, shot a 4-under, 68 in the final round of the LeTourneau/Energy Weldfab Tempest Intercollegiate on Tuesday, to come back and tie his teammate, Owen Prewitt, for first place among the 75-player field with a three-round score of 7-under (72-69-68--209). The freshman birdied the 17th hole to get even and then sank a short putt on the second playoff hole to capture medalist honors. Torres had five birdies and an eagle on Tuesday, and totaled 12 birdies and two eagles for the tournament.
Torres and Prewitt paced the 13th-ranked LeTourneau men's golf team which carded a 1-under, 863 (295-284-284) to earn the tournament title for a third straight year.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Matthew McKenzie of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to a third-place team finish at the LeTourneau/Energy Weldfab Tempest Intercollegiate, finishing in fourth place with a three-round total of 215 (76-62-67). His third round 67 was the low round of the tournament and helped him to a -1 under finish - making him just one of four players to finish the tournament in red numbers. Sophomore William Alberty of St. Thomas tied for fifth overall at the LeTourneau/Energy Weldfab Tempest Intercollegiate with a three-round score of 216 (E). The sophomore transfer opened with strong with rounds of 70 and 71 before finishing with a 75 to pace the Celts, who placed fourth in the team standings. Senior William Baker of Hendrix posted rounds of 79-71-76 to finish at 226 (+10) and a tie for 15th place to lead the Warriors at the LeTourneau/Energy Weldfab Tempest Intercollegiate. Sophomore Cooper Hollomon of Texas Lutheran also finished in a tie for 15th overall with a ten-over par total of 226. After starting with an 82 in Monday's opening round, Hollomon bounced back with consecutive rounds of 72 to lead the Bulldogs to a sixth place team finish at the LeTourneau/Energy Weldfab Tempest Intercollegiate. Senior Kaden English of Concordia (Texas) paced the Tornados at the LeTourneau/Energy Weldfab Tempest Intercollegiate, finishing tied for 23rd with a three-round score of 229 (+13).
