MARSHALL, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team was bested by a score of 9-6 against the host team East Texas Baptist University in the Regional Opener of the NCAA Tournament. Junior catcher Carson Riley homered twice, while freshman designated hitter Louis Alonzo also went yard at Woods Field on Friday.
The Tornados struck first with a two-run opening inning. Samuel Ortiz singled and Alonzo doubled to set the table before Jett Warner ripped a two-run ground-rule double to give CTX the early lead.
ETBU answered with two runs in the first, added another pair in the second, and took a 5-2 advantage after a solo homer in the third inning.
Concordia responded in the fourth when Riley launched a two-run homer & Alonzo followed with a solo homer in the fifth to even the score at 5-all.
The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the fifth with the game-changing grand slam that pushed ETBU ahead 9-5. Riley added his second homer of the day in the ninth inning, but Concordia could not complete the comeback.
