Lauren Hofeldt, Austin College, Women's Tennis - Character & Community

LAUREN HOFELDT OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore on the women's tennis team from McKinney, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning March 23.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Lauren is making a profound impact both on and off the court at Austin College. Balancing her academic pursuits and her role on the Austin College women's tennis team, she has dedicated herself to a wide array of campus leadership and community service initiatives, building upon a strong foundation of lifelong philanthropy.

This year, Lauren expanded her campus involvement by joining the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing her peers in the athletic department. She is also a highly active member of Alpha Phi Omega (APO), the campus service fraternity. Through APO, Lauren identified a vital community need at Grand Central Station, a local food pantry and soup kitchen. Every Thursday, she and her tennis doubles partner, Ashlyn Alexander, volunteer their time to prepare and serve breakfast to community members in need.

Beyond her local community service, Lauren remains deeply invested in youth mentorship. She serves as an Austin College ACtivator - students of various church memberships who work with the Director of Church Relations to plan and lead Presbyterian Church youth ministry events throughout the Southwest - and small group leader at a youth church camp she attended growing up. In this role, she helps plan and organize weekend retreats, leading Bible studies and guiding young attendees through their faith journeys. Lauren noted that one of the most rewarding aspects of this work is seeing the lasting impact she has on the youth, many of whom return year after year to seek her out.

Lauren’s collegiate dedication to service is deeply rooted in her high school experiences. Prior to attending Austin College, she was a prominent member and Chapter President of the National Charity League (NCL), a mother-daughter organization focused on philanthropic service. During her time with NCL, Lauren spent countless hours working alongside her mother for Meals on Wheels, packaging and delivering food to individuals facing financial hardship or physical limitations. As Chapter President, she mentored younger members, guiding them in faith, leadership, and a sustained commitment to helping others.

Whether serving breakfast at Grand Central Station, mentoring youth, or leading her peers at Austin College, Lauren continues to exemplify the powerful intersection of athletics, leadership, and community service.
