Emeri Watson, Austin College, Women's Soccer - Character & Community

EMERI WATSON OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior midfielder/forward on the women's soccer team from Paris, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning December 15.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Emeri has excelled in a number of areas throughout her time at Austin College, with the senior women’s standout being an All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performer on the pitch while also earning College Sports Communicators Academic All-District accolades. But her influence on the campus has extended beyond just the field and the classroom, as the Paris, Texas native has built a rich experience of being a campus leader in several ways.

A business finance major with minors in accounting and leadership studies, Emeri is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, even serving as that organization’s secretary, and a recipient of Austin College’s Posey Leadership Institute Fellowship. Naturally, those leadership skills have also come in handy with the ’Roo women’s soccer team, where she’s served as a multi-year captain, and she’s also served as the president of her sorority, Omega Zeta.

This fall, Emeri has been working on her senior capstone project in her leadership studies minor, and continues to organize a panel on leadership in women’s sports to help connect current members of Austin College’s women’s athletics programs with former standouts in ’Roo athletics. One of the additional goals of her work in this project is to help lend a voice to her fellow student-athletes when it comes to instituting changes or providing additional support within the Austin College athletics community.

Through her work with her sorority, Emeri has also worked extensively with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Grayson County, an organization that works to help children in the court and foster care systems. She has helped arrange fundraisers for CASA throughout her time at Austin College, including an event called Karaoke for CASA to raise money for children within the system in Grayson County.
