OWEN GARCIA OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, September 20th. SCAC Football Release (Week 3)
Garcia posted a career-high ten tackles with a forced fumble and an interception in the Bulldogs come-from-behind win against Southwestern (Tex.). Garcia's interception came in the first quarter and he returned it 31 yards to the redzone to set up the Bulldogs' first touchdown of the game.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defensive back Ryan Maxwell of Hendrix set a new single-game high on Saturday with two interceptions against Millsaps. Both picks came in critical situations as he twice picked off the Majors in the endzone to ensure that Millsaps came away empty-handed. The senior also recorded two tackles in the loss. Junior defensive lineman Jackson Harris of McMurry recorded four total tackles in the War Hawks' loss at Huntingdon with three tackles for loss. Harris also tallied a pair of sacks for a loss of 10 yards and a pair of forced fumbles.
