TEIGAN EDWARDS OF LETOURNEAU, a senior guard from Lindale, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Friday, January 30 through Sunday, February 1. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 12)
Edwards totaled 4.5 steals and 8.0 rebounds per game to go with 15.0 points and 6.0 assists per game over a 2-0 week for LeTourneau. All 16 of Edwards' rebounds on the week were on the defensive end. In an 84-72 win over Dallas, Edwards had four steals, six rebounds, 13 points, and three assists. He then nearly had a triple-double in a win over Austin with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists to go with five steals. This marks Edwards' second SCAC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Bryce Evans of Centenary had a solid defensive weekend for the Gents in wins at home over Austin College and Dallas as he grabbed 10 rebounds (eight on the defensive end) with four blocked shots, three assists, and a steal as he averaged 6.0 points per game and 32.5 minutes/game. First-year Kyle Kihlberg of Colorado College anchored the Tigers’ defense in two key SCAC matchups, averaging 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game against Concordia (Tex.) and Texas Lutheran, totaling 17 rebounds and six blocks. On Friday at Concordia (Tex.), Kihlberg controlled the paint with 13 rebounds, including nine defensive boards, while adding five blocks, three assists, and two steals in 23 minutes. He followed that performance with another strong defensive effort in Saturday’s overtime win at Texas Lutheran, recording a block and a steal while helping secure the conference road victory. Senior Angel Johnson of St. Thomas (Tex.) was relentless on the defensive end, setting the tone with nonstop energy and physicality across two conference games. He racked up eight steals while also contributing on the glass from the guard spot, pulling down eight rebounds.
