MADDY HIRNEISE OF LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY, a junior defensive specialist/libero from Hickory Creek, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 2nd through Sunday, September 7th. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 2)
Hirneise averaged 7.09 digs per set with 78 digs over three matches for the YellowJackets. The junior posted 23 digs or more in each of those three matches with a career-high 31 against Covenant in a 3-1 win. She was named to the Coca-Cola Invitational All-Tournament team for her performance.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
First-year middle blocker Madisin Hartsfield of Austin College posted 13 total blocks in 11 sets played for the Roos. Hartsfield averaged 1.18 blocks per set with four or more blocks in all three matches. She also added 16 kills. Junior libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College collected 37 digs in a 3-0 weekend for the Tigers. She tied her season-high of 18 digs in a five-set thriller against George Fox and had just one reception error over the weekend. Senior outside hitter Malarie Mican of Concordia (Tex.) led the Tornados with 45 digs over four matches. Mican totaled 17 digs against Mary Hardin-Baylor and added five blocks over the weekend including two against #11 East Texas Baptist. First-year defensive specialist Breana Timms of Dallas posted 49 digs over four matches for the Crusaders including 23 digs against Belhaven. Timms had a pair of matches with 13 or more digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Faith Jones of Hendrix College totaled 55 digs over the Warriors’ 3-0 weekend averaging 4.23 digs per set. Jones tallied a career-high 22 digs against Lyon in a five-set match to help the Warriors’ remain undefeated. First-year defensive specialist Lauralai Bradley of University of the Ozarks posted 58 digs over four matches for the Eagles including helping them win their inaugural match. Bradley added nine service aces and 16 assists as well over the week. Junior libero Carly Lange of University of St. Thomas (Tex.) posted 79 digs over four matches, helping the Celts remain undefeated with a 4-0 weekend. Lange averaged 5.27 digs per set adding 75 receptions and four service aces. Senior defensive specialist/libero Richelle Guerra of Texas Lutheran contributed 43 digs for the Bulldogs over three matches. Guerra averaged 4.78 digs per set tallying 21 against Southwestern (Tex.).
