KATELYN HOWARD OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior right-hander from Waller, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 6 through Sunday, April 12. SCAC Softball Release - Week 10
Howard went 2-0 in the circle last week in a pair of appearances to secure her NCAA leading 15th win of the season and help lift the Bulldogs to a series sweep over Hendrix at home. Howard scattered just five hits over nine innings of work without allowing a single run or issuing a walk. She struck out three batters, posted a perfect 0.00 ERA and stellar 0.78 WHIP .
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year pitcher Haydyn Schexnayder of Centenary tossed her second complete game of the season last Friday in the Ladies’ 9-6 win over McMurry in game one of a DH. She allowed just one earned run and scattered nine hits without issuing a walk, posting a 1.00 ERA and a .129 WHIP on the week. Junior pitcher Kylie Kirk of Concordia (Tex.) turned in a dominant series-opening outing in the circle, leading the Tornados to a 4-1 victory over Ozarks. Kirk threw a complete game, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out eight and walking one to help Concordia secure a road sweep over the Eagles. First-year pitcher Laynie Davis of LeTourneau tossed a no-hitter in the series finale versus Dallas to lead LeTourneau to a series sweep. It was the fifth no-hitter in program history. In the no-no, Davis allowed just one baserunner (one walk) as she struck out one. She was also 2-for-3 with a double, run scored, and RBI in the game. On the week, Davis tossed seven innings over two appearances, finishing with a 5.00 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP.
