JESUS CARRILLO OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a first-year midfielder from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from September 29th through Sunday, October 5th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 6)
Carrillo was instrumental in lifting TLU to a pair of SCAC wins at home last weekend, including a one goal two assist effort in the Bulldogs 4-1 win over Ozarks on Friday. The two assist match we his first of his career and he is now tied for second in the SCAC with four on the season. Carrillo increased his yearly point total to 10 after posting four last week and is now tied for fifth in the SCAC. His efforts have helped TLU post an unbeaten mark in SCAC play through four league fixtures (3-0-1) for the first time in program history since joining the conference prior to the 2013 season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore midfielder Colin Nguyen of Austin College registered his first career goal, the game-winner, in the ‘Roos’ 1-0 win over McMurry on the road Friday night. Nguyen finished the weekend with two shots and was key in helping Austin College post a pair of SCAC wins on the road last weekend. Junior forward Carter Webb of Centenary scored twice in leading the Gents to a 7-0 win over Dallas on Sunday. Webb scored the game-winner just 1:45 into the match as Centenary posted the most goals in a single SCAC match since joining the league prior to the 2013 season. First-year forward Henry Shore of LeTourneau scored a goal and added two assists to help the YellowJackets post a 1-0-1 record in SCAC play last week. Shore opened the week with an assist in a 1-1 draw at Schreiner before returning with a goal and assist in a tight 3-2 win over McMurry at home on Sunday. First-year forward Juan Carlos of McMurry scored a goal in the War Hawks 3-2 loss at LeTourneau on Sunday. Carlos now has three goals on the year, second most in the War Hawks’ lineup. Senior midfielder Jovany Garcia of St. Thomas converted on a penalty kick to provide an insurance goal for the Celts in a 2-0 win over Dallas on Friday. Garcia is now tied for fourth in the SCAC with four goals on the year and tied for fifth in total points with 10.
