OWEN GARCIA OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defensive back from Austin, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, October 11th. SCAC Football Release (Week 6)
Garcia led the Bulldogs with a career-high 12 tackles in a 55-27 win over Centenary. The sophomore totaled 3.5 tackles for loss with nine solo stops against the Gents. The 12 tackles in a single contest are tied for second-most this season by an SCAC athlete. This marks Garcia's second weekly award of the season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year safety Marc Canzoneri of Centenary had a team-high nine total tackles, including five solo stops, for the Gents on Saturday night in their league opener against Texas Lutheran. Senior defensive back Ryan Maxwell of Hendrix picked off Austin College twice on Saturday afternoon in a 60-21 win to mark his second multi-interception game of the season. The senior also finished with four tackles and leads the SCAC in interceptions with five. Sophomore linebacker Eric Tonche of McMurry posted four tackles and one sack in the War Hawks' 65-7 win over Lyon. Tonche had three solo stops and one tackle for loss.
