TEDDY OPLER OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore midfielder from Wilson, Wyo., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from September 22nd through Sunday, September 28th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 5)
Opler had a career weekend as CC defeated the Ozarks, 3-0, and Hendrix, 7-0, to open SCAC play. The sophomore finished with three goals, three assists, eight shots, seven shots on goal and two game-winning goals. He tallied a goal and an assist on Friday against the Eagles, then followed it up with a career-high two goals and two assists against the Warriors. Opler is second in the SCAC with 15 points, second only to fellow Tiger, Ewen Robertson.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Luis Garza-Rios of Austin College huge game to help the ‘Roos come back from a late 2-0 deficit to earn a point against Texas Lutheran, assisting on the team's first goal and adding a tally of his own on a penalty kick just 88 seconds later, all within the final four minutes of the match, to make it a 2-2 draw. Senior forward Alejandro Rojas of Concordia (TX) was dynamic last week as he recorded a pair of goals and an assist for five total points in three matches. In a 3-1 win over ETBU, Rojas connected with Bryan Rios for an early sixth minute goal and then in the 50th minute, Rojas powered a penalty kick into the upper right for an insurance tally. In the SCAC opener, trailing late, Rojas found the back of the net for his second goal of the week to level to Tornados 1-1 against LeTourneau securing a result. Sophomore midfielder Giovanni Casias of Ozarks scored a goal and had an assist in a 3-0 win over Dallas on Sunday. Casias connected on a penalty kick for the Eagles' first goal and then assisted on the second goal. Senior midfielder Jovany Garcia of St. Thomas was outstanding last weekend leading the Celts to a perfect 2-0 start in SCAC play with wins over Schreiner and McMurry on the road. Garcia scored the game-winning goal in both matches, finishing the weekend with four points on two goals. Sophomore midfielder Evan Pacheco of Texas Lutheran had a strong weekend leading the Bulldogs to a 1-0-1 record to open SCAC play last weekend registering three points on a goal and an assist. He tallied an assist in TLU’s 2-2 draw against Austin College and then scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win over LeTourneau.
