WILL LANCASTER OF CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY (TX), a junior midfielder from Edinburgh, Scotland, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 20th through Sunday, October 26th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 9)
Lancaster was brilliant in his first two starts of the season, lifting the Tornados to a pair of key SCAC victories, securing six critical points on the league table and clinching a spot in the SCAC Tournament for the first time in program history. Lancaster played all 180 minutes, the team’s iron man over the weekend, anchoring a defensive effort that allowed just one goal and just nine shots on target, highlighted by a 3-0 shutout win over St. Thomas. The shutout was the third in SCAC play this year for the Tornados. Lancaster also go involved offensively, scoring a wonderful free kick goal in the win over the Celts.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year goalkeeper Patrick Bassett of Austin College was fantastic in net as the 'Roos clinched a berth in the SCAC Tournament for the first time since 2019, making a total of 10 saves while allowing only one goal in 180 minutes of action. His efforts helped AC post a perfect 2-0 record in league play last week, highlighted by a 1-0 shutout over Ozarks on the road on Sunday. Bassett made eight saves in a 3-1 win over Hendrix, including a second half penalty kick save that kept AC ahead, 2-1, at the time and allowed for the ‘Roos to claim a 3-1 win. Junior goalkeeper Edson Camara Martinez of LeTourneau had one shutout and a 1.00 goals against average in a 1-1 week for the YellowJackets. Martinez made two saves and notched the shutout in a 1-0 victory at Ozarks and then followed that up with four saves in a 2-1 loss at Hendrix. First-year defender Anthony Ortiz of McMurry played all 180 minutes along the backline for the War Hawks over the weekend, highlighted by a lockdown performances in a 5-1 win over Dallas on the road on Sunday.
