BRIANA SALVATIERRA-MOORE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from Friday, August 29th through Monday, September 1st. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 1)

Salvatierra-Moore led all SCAC players with 18 blocks over opening weekend including 10 in the season opener against Carleton. The sophomore sits atop the league in total blocks and blocks per set as one of two athletes with 15 or more blocks to start the season (both from TLU). The ten blocks are a career-high for Salvatierra-Moore and are tied for the second most in a match in program history for the Bulldogs.

Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College helped the ‘Roos to a 4-0 weekend averaging a team-best 4.0 digs-per-set, including notching 32 in a five-set win over Millsaps. Kovacs also had 16 service aces and 10 assists. First-year defensive specialist/setter Elize Castillo of Centenary finished her collegiate debut against Wiley with 10 digs, three aces, and a pair of assists. Junior libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College led the Tigers with 51 digs as they went 2-2 at the Pikes Peak Challenge. Gannon posted a high of 18 over the weekend finishing in double figures in three of four matches. Senior libero Isabella Martinez of Concordia (Tex.) totaled 46 digs and averaged 3.83 digs per set as the Tornados posted a 4-0 record at the Austin College Classic. First-year libero Isabella Woodley of Dallas collected 36 digs with an average of 3.27 digs per set. Her weekend high came against New England College with 15 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Faith Jones of Hendrix set a career-high twice over the weekend in digs with 17 against Belhaven and then 21 against Lyon over a 2-0 weekend for the Warriors. Junior libero Maddy Hirneise of LeTourneau recorded 56 digs in three matches with a career-best 28 in a five-set win over LaGrange. She recorded 10 or more digs in each match. Sophomore defensive specialist/libero Jalie Miller of McMurry posted 54 total digs across four matches in a 3-1 weekend for the War Hawks. Junior libero/defensive specialist Carly Lange of St. Thomas (Tex.) made an immediate impact recording 90 digs averaging 6.00 per set as the Celt were undefeated on opening weekend. Lange leads the SCAC in digs and digs per set.
