SAM ALLEN OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore from Aptos, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets conducted Friday, January 16 through Sunday, January 18. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 11)
Allen captured four individual first place finishes at the CC Classic in the 200 back (1:52.18), the 100 back (50.71), 100 fly (51.06) and 200 fly (1:56.01). Allen recorded multiple lifetime bests including the school record in the 100 back, three pool records in the 800 Free Relay, 200 Back and 400 Medley Relay and was the meet high point winner with 80 points. He was part of the 200 Medley (23.42 Back), 400 Medley (50.60), and 400 Free relays which all took first place. He was also on the 200 Free B relay which took 2nd place splitting (21.37). The 800 Free relay time trialed and broke the school record with Sam leading off with a split of 1:44.13 which was another lifetime best time. This marks his second-straight swimmer of the week award.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Caden Eckenroth of Asbury performed great in two meets this weekend. In a dual meet against Sewanee, Eckenroth finished first in the 200 FR (1:48.4), second in the 500 FR (5:05.8), and split a quick 22.4 in the A 200 FR relay that finished second. On Saturday against Sewanee and Montevallo, the first-year took an exciting second place in the 1000 FR (10:27.7) and was a key leg in the A 400 FR relay (49.2) that won first by over a second. Sophomore Adam Stelly of Centenary finished third in the 200 free (1:52.78) and also placed third in the 100 fly (56.79) to help lead the Gents on Saturday at home in a conference dual meet against Austin College and the University of St. Thomas. Junior Owen Vennerholm of Hendrix won both events that he competed in at the Warriors' Senior Meet in Conway. He placed first in the men's 200 yard free (1:55.22) before adding another first-place finish in the men's 100 yard backstroke (57.52). Sophomore Wes Scalf of McMurry was a double event winner for the War Hawks against UTPB. Scalf split 26.35 in the 50 Breaststroke on the 200 Medley Relay, took first in the 200 IM with a 2:01.34 and first in the 100 Breaststroke with a 58.97.
