Huges won the 200 fly by 10 seconds and posted the fourth best time in the conference at the Hendrix Classic over the weekend. Hughes also had a great showing in the 200 back where he secured a 1-2 finish for the ‘Roos just five minutes after winning the 200 fly hitting the wall in 2:10.52.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Ethan Bonow of Asbury won the 100-yard butterfly with a new pool time of 49.30 in dual meet action against Transylvania last weekend. Bonow also swam a leg on a pair of winning relay teams, posting a 21.80 butterfly split in the Eagles’ 200-medley relay squad and posted a lead off leg split of 20.75 on the 200-yard freestyle relay. Senior Edmund Davis of Colorado College continued to show his leadership this week against Division II School of Mines posting two new season bests, a pair of first place finishes and a second-place finish on the 200 Free relay. Davis was the top individual point scorer for the men's team with a 200 Free (1:43.79) first place finish, 500 Free (4:47.82) first place finish and split 21.27 on the 200 Free relay. These times and places helped the Tigers' men's team to the highest points scored against Mines in recent history. Sophomore James Cotham of Hendrix was a key piece for the Warriors at the Hendrix Relays and Hendrix Classic over the weekend. At the Classic, he won the 200 free (1:51.11) and 500 free (5:05.80) and led off the 400 free relay with a 50.42 split. During the Relays, Cotham helped Hendrix win four relay events, posting strong splits of 50.78 (100 free), 57.78 (100 back), 1:15.68 (100 breast), and 5:09.46 (500 free). First-year Tanner McKay of St. Thomas (Tex.) delivered another strong weekend for the Celts, showing impressive range and speed across multiple events. He posted a 47.12 split in the 400-medley relay, 1:01.56 in the 100 breast, and 21.25 on the 200 free relay. On day two of the Celts’ Tri-Meet, he added a 48.29 in the 400 free relay, 22.2 in the 50 free, and 21.76 on the 200-medley relay.
