SAM ALLEN OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore from Aptos, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets conducted Friday, January 9 through Sunday, January 11. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 10)
Allen captured all three individual events against Chapman University while also taking a second place finish for the 200 medley relay. Individually, he swam the 100 back (52.86), 200 back (1:57.08) and 200 IM (1:59.37) and led off the 200 medley relay (24.50). In the second meet of the weekend, the sophomore was part of the 400 mixed medley relay leading off in a time of 52.93. He also posted a time of 24.78 as the leadoff in the 200 backstroke relay and posted splits of 23.34 and 54.09 in the 200 fly relay and the 4X100 IM relay, respectively, with all swims contributing to a team win against Occidental.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Ethan Bonow of Asbury posted two lifetime best times in the 500 FR (4:57.70) and the 400 IM (4:22.52), placing 10th and fourth overall respectively at the Centre College Colonel Classic. He also posted a second place finish in the 100 FR (46.28). Bonow also featured prominently on both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, helping both teams secure 5th place finishes. First-year Flyn Hughes of Austin College had a great meet where he won a pair of individual events in the 200 fly (2:04.97) and 100 fly (55.31). He also contributed to a second place finish in the 200 free relay where he split 22.98. Sophomore Adam Stelly of Centenary picked up a win in the 200 free (1:52.71) on Saturday in the Austin College Invitational and also finished third in the 100 fly (57.87) and fourth in the 50 free (24.21). Sophomore Wes Scalf of McMurry claimed a pair of wins this weekend at the Austin College Invitational in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle events and anchored the winning 200 Free Relay with a 21.66.
