SEGUIN, Texas - With three events in the books, McMurry University has an early lead over the four-time defending champions, Trinity University, after Day One of the 2025 SCAC Men's Track and Field Championship, which is being contested on the campus of Texas Lutheran University. This year's meet, which is the largest in conference history, saw 12 men's teams kick off the 2025 event with competition in the field events of javelin, long jump and shot put.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Pierce Jackson of Trinity (watch post race interview) earned his second consecutive conference meet gold medal in the javelin, taking this year's title with a toss of 58.97 meters (193' 6") - the seventh-longest effort in SCAC championship meet history. Jackson is the first repeat champion in the event since TLU's Trevor Roberts won back-to-back gold medals in 2017 and 2018. Sophomore Bruce Brown of McMurry placed second with an effort of 57.44 meters (188' 5") and senior Ezra Acero of Texas Lutheran took bronze with a throw of 57.37 meters (188' 3").
- Southwestern senior Jamal Maxey (watch post race interview) was also a repeat winner, picking up his second straight gold medal in the long jump by holding off the nation's leader in the event, with a leap of 7.19 meters (23' 7"). Maxey's winning effort was the fifth-longest in SCAC meet history. McMurry senior Dontre Sinegal, who entered this year's championship with the longest effort in all of Division III this season (7.58 meters), had to settle for silver with a jump of 7.11 meters (23' 4") - which is tied for the seventh-best effort in conference meet history. First-year Kamryn Cleveland of McMurry was third with a jump of 6.71 meters (22' 1/4").
- Sophomore Calvin Mason of LeTourneau (watch post race interview) earned the program's first SCAC title in the Yellowjackets' inaugural conference meet, taking top honors in the shot put with a toss of 15.95 meters (52' 4") - the third-longest throw in SCAC history. First-year Kendrick Vanderbilt of McMurry took silver in the shot put with an effort of 15.23 meters (49' 11 1/2" - eighth all-time) and sophomore Owen Shi of Colorado College was third at 14.57 meters (47' 9 1/2").
