JAMIEN JUNE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior from Grand Prarie, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Tuesday, January 20 through Sunday, January 25. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 11)
June helped the 'Roos to its first two SCAC wins of the season as he flirted with a triple-double in the team's win over Hendrix and posted a double-double against Ozarks. The junior totaled 21 points against the Eagles finishing the week averaging 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists while shooting 52.2% from the field, 42.9% from three, and 80% from the free throw line. June also recorded 12 assists with seven against the Warriors.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Kane Broussard of Centenary averaged 19.5 PPG, 9.0 rebounds/game for the Gents in a pair of home games against Howard Payne and Concordia highlighted by a season-high 34 points in a blowout win over Howard Payne in which he made a Centenary men's basketball program record ten 3-point baskets. Broussard was 10-15 from beyond the arc and was 12-18 from the floor in 39 minutes and his 12 made field goals were also a season high. Broussard's 10 treys are the most by a SCAC player in a game this season and Broussard is one of just five players in the nation to make at least 10 treys in a game this season. Senior Joey Ramirez of Concordia (Tex.) exploded for 31 points in a 82-77 road win over Centenary. Twenty-seven of Ramirez's points came in the second half as the senior added five boards and went 9-for-9 from the charity stripe to help ice the game. Junior Thomas Fleming of Dallas poured in 22 points, leading all scorers while showcasing efficiency and perimeter shot making at will, in a win over Hendrix. He knocked down 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, repeatedly stretching the defense and breaking the game open. His scoring outburst accounted for a significant portion of the team’s offense and helped fuel a decisive victory. Senior Jackson Mayes of LeTourneau scored 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting with six rebounds, two assists, and one steal in a 95-67 win over Texas Lutheran. The 22-point performance marked his 11th 20-point game of the season. Junior DJ Miller of Ozarks (Ark.) came off the bench to score 22 points behind a 4-of-6 performance from the three-point line against Austin College. Miller also pulled down five rebounds and dished out four assists. Senior Angel Johnson of St. Thomas (Tex.) delivered a statement performance on the offensive end, as he dished out an impressive 19 assists to just two turnovers, showcasing elite court vision, decision-making, and composure. Johnson controlled the tempo from start to finish, consistently creating high-quality scoring opportunities for his teammates and keeping the offense in rhythm. Senior Mason Wallace of Texas Lutheran impressed again with 23 points including going 8-of-12 from the free throw line against LeTourneau. The 23-point performance marked the sixth 20+ point game for the senior this season.
