PIERCE WEAR OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior midfielder from North Richland Hills, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 13th through Sunday, October 19th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 8)
Wear had a huge weekend for Austin College as the 'Roos went 1-0-1, including a 1-1 draw with conference-leading Colorado College and tallying the game winner in a 2-0 win against Dallas. He scored on his lone shot attempt against the Tigers and fired off eight more attempts in the victory over the Crusaders. Wear and Austin College have already secured four wins in SCAC play to this point in the season, matching the most conference wins in any season since winning six in the 2018 campaign. Wear is now seventh in the SCAC with 26 shots on the year.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Brandon Guevara of Centenary scored his second goal of the season to give the Gents a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute of the Gents' 2-0 win over Ozarks at home on Senior Night on Friday. First-year defender Jack Purvis of Colorado College was instrumental in the Tigers securing four points in the league standings and remain unbeaten on the season. On Friday night at Austin College, Purvis scored his first career goal in the dying minutes of the match to secure a result in a 1-1 tie against the ‘Roos and then followed that up with an assist on the lone Tiger goal in a 1-0 win over LeTourneau on Sunday. He finished the weekend with three points on a goal and an assist in leading CC to a 1-0-1 record. Sophomore midfielder Tripp Ortega III of Hendrix led the Warriors to a crucial six-point weekend with wins over St. Thomas and Centenary. His first-half strike against the Celts was the lone goal in Hendrix's 1-0 victory in Houston. Ortega was kept off the scoresheet on Sunday in Hendrix's 3-0 shutout of Centenary but recorded six shots and forced the Gents into two saves. Junior forward Caleb Nelson of LeTourneau tallied a goal and two assists in the YellowJackets 6-0 win over Dallas last Friday evening. Nelson is now tied for fifth in the SCAC with five assists on the season. Sophomore midfielder Giovanni Casias of Ozarks recorded a brace, scoring both Eagles’ goals in a tough 3-2 loss to St. Thomas on Sunday. Sophomore forward Raymond Palmer of Texas Lutheran scored the game-winning goal in the Bulldogs’ 2-0 win over Schreiner on Sunday at home to lift TLU to a perfect 2-0 record on the week. It marked the third goal of the season for Palmer and his second game-winning tally on the year.
