Iwahara went 2-0 at No. 1 singles to help the Eagles to an undefeated conference record (2-0) last week. Against LeTourneau, he defeated Zach Farris 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. The next day, Iwahara won 6-3, 6-1 against Raja Pandya from St. Thomas (Tex.), with both opponents posting higher UTR rankings than Iwahara.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Lenny Lehmitz of Colorado College went 2-2 in singles last week during CC's spring break trip to California. He opened the week with a thrilling 6-7(3), 6-2, 1-0(5) win over Venkat Batlanki of 11th-ranked Babson College at the No. 3 position. He also defeated Niklas Jensen of Whitman College, 7-6(4), 6-3, at the No. 2 spot. He lost an exciting 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(7) decision to Tejas Ram of 31st-ranked Cal Tech at the No. 3 spot. Junior Chase Scholz of Concordia (Tex.) went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, earning straight-set victories over Austin College’s Cameron McIver and Dallas’ Christian DeLira. He did not drop a set across both matches, leading the Tornados from the top spot in back-to-back 7-0 sweeps. First-year James Thomson of Hendrix breezed through the No.2 singles spot in Hendrix's weekend sweep of LeTourneau and St. Thomas (Tex.). Thomson surrendered just five games over his two straight-set victories, defeating LeTourneau's Andrew Reiman 6-3, 6-1 and St. Thomas' Sawyer White 6-1, 6-0. First-year Ricardo Moolchan of St. Thomas (Tex.) delivered a strong performance for the Celts against Hendrix, securing wins in both doubles and singles play. He claimed a 6-4 victory in doubles before earning a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 win in singles. Senior Cash Herrera of Texas Lutheran won both his singles matches this week from the No. 1 position Dallas’ Christian DeLira and Austin College’s Cameron McIver. Herrera won 6-4, 6-3 over DeLira and in straight-sets against McIver as TLU went 2-0.
