PEYTON JONES OF UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS, a first-year from Scranton, Ark., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, February 23 through Sunday, March 1. SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 1
Jones, making his collegiate outdoor debut, set two new outdoor track records at the Hendrix College Open on Saturday in Conway. Jones ran a 1:56.42 in 800-meter to secure a second place finish and then took home third place in the 5,000-meters with a program record time of 15:25.66. Both were program records and came against a mix of NCAA I, NCAA II and NCAA III runners from across the region.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Isaias Mendoza of Concordia (Tex.) had a strong outdoor collegiate debut competing at the Hendrix College open. Mendoza won his heat in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:18.0 and the posted an 800-meter time of 2:03.0. He also ran on the Tornados’ 400-meter relay squad that posted a time of 3:34.91 to win the event.
