KENTO IWAHARA AND PERRY GUIDRY OF UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS (ARK.), have been named the SCAC Men’s Doubles Team of the Week for matches played from Wednesday, March 18 through Sunday, March 22. SCAC Men's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 6
Iwahara, a senior from Fukuoka, Japan, and Guidry, a senior from Lafayette, La., posted a 3-0 No. 1 doubles record last week, including a big 7-6 win against the nationally-ranked duo from UA-Fort Smith. Iwahara and Guidry opened the week Wednesday by upsetting Eduardo Bribiesca and Birk Arwedahl, who are ranked among the NCAA II's top-50 in the ITA. Iwahara and Guidry defeated Andrew Reiman and Fernando Vazquez 6-3 to push the Eagles to a win against LeTourneau. The following day, Iwahara and Guidry capped the week with a 6-3 win against Wilson Salazar and Sawyer White from St. Thomas.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Juniors Jake Riggs and Chase Scholz of Concordia (Tex.) went 2-0 at No. 3 doubles, earning dominant wins over Austin College’s Cruz Rocha/Jace Warner (6-1) and Dallas’ Juan Bustamante/Gordon Huckestein (6-0). The pair earned the first victory of doubles action on both days, helping Concordia Texas secure the doubles point in back-to-back 7-0 sweeps. Sophomore Wesley McClure and first-year James Thomson of Hendrix excelled in the No. 1 doubles spot in a weekend sweep of LeTourneau and St. Thomas. The duo gave up just two games over their two victories, dominating LeTourneau's No. 1 pairing 6-0 and defeating St. Thomas' No. 1 group 6-2. Seniors Cash Herrera and Eric Moninger of Texas Lutheran swept both matches at No. 1 doubles for the Bulldogs this week. The duo posted a 6-2 win over both Dallas and Austin College.
