LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four SCAC men's teams were in action this past week, with all four competing at the Alamo City Classic at The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio.
Trinity emerged victorious at the tournament, rallying from third place after the opening day of action. The Tigers shot a second-round 279 to win the team title with a 577 at the par-71 event, sparked by a 19-shot improvement after day one.
Five Trinity players finished in the top 15 individually, led by Travis Hindle's 1-under-par 141 for the two-day event. Hindle carded a 4-under 67 on Tuesday, which was just three strokes from the Quarry Golf Club course record of 64.
Texas Lutheran posted a 287 on Tuesday after a 295 on Monday for a final team score of 582 to finish five shots behind Trinity. The Bulldogs were led by Colin Uecker and Kraig Zimmerhanzel, who both finished with a two-day total of 141 (-1) to force a three-way tie atop the individual leaderboard.
Uecker came out on top in the three-person playoff for medalist honors, winning his third collegiate golf tournament. The sophomore parred the first two playoff holes to edge Hindle and fellow Bulldog Kraig Zimmerhanzel for the individual win. Zimmerhanzel was eliminated after the first playoff hole, and Hindle was eliminated on the second playoff hole after a bogey.
Back to the team finishes, both Trinity and TLU moved past Schreiner on Tuesday, bumping the Mountaineers to a third-place finish. SU actually shaved one stroke off its first round score and posted a 292 but finished at 585 - three shots behind second-place Texas Lutheran.
Southwestern shaved five strokes off its first round but remained in fourth place to close out the Alamo City Classic with a two-day total of 591.
