TLU's Hight Named SCAC Player of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Freshman guard/forward Savannah Hight of Texas Lutheran University has been named SCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after after an outstanding effort a week ago.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 10th – February 16th

SAVANNAH HIGHT OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a freshman guard/forward from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected as the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 10th through Sunday, February 16th.

Hight averaged 13.5 points and 5.0 rebounds during a 2-0 week and hit what proved to be the winning shot in a comeback victory over Trinity University

Hight scored 15 points against Trinity as TLU rallied to win from 21 down. Hight's jumper in the lane, with 1:12 to play in the game, gave TLU its first lead of the game. She added six rebounds against the Tigers.

Against Southwestern, Hight hit a pair of three-pointers and scored 12 points with four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

With the wins, Texas Lutheran has clinched the No. 1 seed in the SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament on February 28th in San Antonio, Texas in only their first season in the league. The Bulldogs were only 8-17 a year ago and are not on the verge of a 20 win season. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Brittany Stepanski of Austin College averaged 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 60% from the field and 70% from the free throw line to help the 'Roos to a 2-0 record over the weekend, including hitting the game winner with 3.9 seconds remaining in a two point win over Colorado College on Friday. Sophomore forward Rebecca Thompson of Centenary averaged a double-double for the weekend with 12.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. The sophomore from Benton, La., has flirted with double-doubles all season and recorded her second one of the season with 13 points and 11 boards against Colorado College. Sophomore forward Danielle Davis of Colorado College 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds to help Colorado College earn a split on the road last week. Davis made 15 of 24 (.625) field-goal attempts and nine of 10 (.900) free throws. Senior post Christy Allen of Dallas averaged 11.0 points/game and 8.5 rebounds to lead the Crusaders to a 1-1 record. Sophomore guard Kelsie Jackson of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to a 1-1 week with 19 ppg, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals for the week. She had 25 pts, five rebounds, and a steal against Trinity. Senior guard/forward Chelsea Leeder of Southwestern jumped into the top 10 in the SCAC in career scoring this weekend, averaging 14.5 points per game. Sophomore forward Anecia Richardson of Trinity averaged 21.0 points/game as the Tigers lost a pair of SCAC road games at Texas Lutheran and Schreiner over the weekend.
